Today is a day of celebration! My mom, who spent almost the entire year last year trying to get her National Board certification (she’s a teacher) just found out that she passed! Yay! That means she’ll get a multi-year bonus that totals $100,000, plus a nice raise. I’m so happy for her! She poured everything she had into the portfolio, and I couldn’t be happier for her!
Vegetarian life is still going very well. A fellow GCMer just shared this link for the vegan lunchbox, and I’m now dreaming of all of the yummy lunches that I could have! MMmmm.
I’m really psyched because my parents are coming next week. I haven’t seen them since July and these multi-month spells in-between our visits are really tough. We used to live less than a mile apart, and although I know that it is really good for us to be totally on our own… its sad too, y’know?
So we’re going skiing/snowboarding with my parents when they come. They’ve never done anys snow sports, so I’m sure it’ll be a blast. Wait, I think my dad said he went skiing once when he was in the army (~30 years ago), but he doesn’t remember much except for drinking a lot of beer before he went on the mountain, LOL. So, I think they both count as newbies. Joe went snowboarding on Wednesday (the first day Winter Park was open) and said that the snow was amazing, so I’m really looking forward to it. I even dreamed about skiing last night, lol.
I made ultimate vegetarian chili last night, although I had some spare Boca crumbles, so I threw them in instead of the bulgur. It was really yummy. I have a bunch of leftover hamburger helpers thanks to the grocery game, so I may try using some of the crumbles in there as well. I think it’d be pretty good. Has anyone tried it?
Well, I’m off to clean and do laundry. I know, I know… I have such a glamorous life!

Hey, mamas! (And the few rare men who read )
I think I’m getting obsessed with learning about Charlotte Mason. I just finished my first book about how to homeschool in a CM way. Its very interesting to me. The school that we were planning on sending the kids to is a classical / CM school, so whether we homeschool or not, its still important for me to know what I can. I joined a group online that is for parents who want to read the classics before they read them with their children, and its really cool! I’m looking forward to the reading. I love classics anyways! Before I had my kids, I was working my way through the 100 Greatest Books list, so I think I’m doing well already, but there are still quite a few that I haven’t read…
My vegetarian life is still going beautifully. Tonight some friends called us at the last minute to invite us out to dinner. They wanted to go to Red Robin, but I knew that they had some vegetarian choices, so I was excited. I had already made some curried lentils with brown basmati rice for dinner, but I just saved them for later. Instead I had the vegetarian rice bowl at Red Robin and it was delicious. I’m so proud of myself!
Joe bought me a pair of skis this week, so I’m wearing the boots right now to break them in. My feet are cryin’! Better now than on the slopes though!
Well, I hope everyone is having a great night! Love ya!

Thanks to everyone who encouraged me on my vegetarianism! It really helped!
Tonight I went to the Melting Pot, and I had their vegetarian entree. It was SO wonderful! It was actually way better than the meat dishes! I’m very glad that I didn’t eat meat!
The night was excellent, except I got hit on a few times by the bartender. It was still a good meal though. That’s what I get for wearing my “hooker boots” as Candice calls them (knee-high high heels).

I’m having a dilemma. Care to help?
So I’m a bit wigged out (I just double checked the spelling on that phrase - I’m so anal-retentive) by the fact that the sword routine will leave a dent in my skull. That’s just not cool. The more I think about it, the more I’m not a fan. So, I’m to the point where I am due to pay for my next month’s worth of classes, and Joe would really be pretty happy if I were to decide to stop taking them and use that same money on a family Y membership. The Y membership is obviously a better value for the family, since we could all use it. Plus I’ve really been wanting to do a triathlon, and I need to practice swimming, and the Y would be perfect for that. They have childcare provided, but I’m a bit scared that my kids will get sick in there especially during cold/flu season. Joe already meets some of the guys at church to play basketball at the Y, and the classes would be really fun to do.
At the same time, I really like bellydancing, but its expensive and that dent thing is scary. My poor brain lost enough cells through my 3 pregnancies - it certainly doesn’t need any other damage.
Oh, and I went to a bellydance performance over the weekend and picked up on some spooky vibes…
So, what do you think? Y membership or bellydancing? My sword just came in the mail today, so I need to return it now if I’m going to drop out!
Dancing with a sword on your head is a cool party trick though… Don’t you think?
